Back in the 1930’s, Lead Belly and Woodie Guthrie picked this 18th century British folk song up and recorded it in a chain-gang, call-and-response style. It’s a particular relief to hear “Stew Ball” restored to the kicky rhythm of Lead Belly’s version. With the aid of Rawlings, Watson reclaims simplicity on blues/folk staples like “Midnight Special” and “James Alley Blues.” Its revolutionary in a way to keep the original strumming and picking patterns on these songs, as Watson does, after decades of hearing these songs morphed into fully fleshed studio productions by fellow blues-lovers like Wilco, Van Morrison, and The Band. ![]() Willie recorded the album in two days in Woodland Studios, the recording studio owned by Welch and Rawlings in the Five Points neighborhood of East Nashville. The series has spawned a large and still growing fan base, and possibly been the catalyst for Barnes & Noble going all-in on romance. The newest book in the series, Royal Holiday, is in stores now. Twitter: All posts by Annika Barranti Klein And I think I couldn't write a book last year that didn't deal with that theme because it was so important to so many of us in the past year.Annika Barranti Klein Contributing EditorĪnnika Barranti Klein likes books, obviously. You know, I know that my most recent book, While We Were Dating, I wrote during the pandemic, and there's a lot about mental health in there. And so while none of these books that I've read, at least, have specifically touched on it, I think a lot of the themes really have touched on it, right? There's a lot about friendship and how our friends evolve, about loving family, about mental health. It's an interesting year, right? Because I think a lot of the books that have come out this year were written at least partially during the pandemic. And that's one of the things that I loved about it so much. Does she want to be in this relationship? Does she want to be an NFL girlfriend? And there's so much about friendship and family and knowing who you are as a person before you're in a relationship in this book. And so she's figuring out herself and kind of who she wants to be as a person. She finds out that he's cheating on her, breaks up with him, but then there's a new player in town, and she has kind of a past with him. This story is really about Marlee, who starts out the book dating an NFL player. ![]() And Alexa Martin really knows how to deal with all of that - both sides of it. There's so much that we love about watching them, but we all know so many of the bad things that happen in sports, from the health struggles to assault to all of the kind of ways in which the teams don't treat their players well. And I've always had a kind of love-hate relationship with football and, I think, a lot of sports. One of the things that I love about Alexa Martin's writing is a lot of her books have been set in and around a football team. And I kind of loved the way that they learn about each other, figure out their families and figure out their selves as they're working through their relationship. And so she gets Luis to pretend to be her fiancé. They broke up right before, and she feels like she has to save face in front of her family. So that's why she has this fake fiancé, because she was supposed to come on this family vacation with a fiancé. And Sara, especially, feels like her family looks down on her. They both love their family so much, but have kind of difficult relationships with different individuals. And I think there's a lot of that in this book.īoth Sara and Luis are figuring out their families. And so, sometimes, you're really figuring out who your family is in relationship to you. And they - I should have probably said this at the beginning - one of my favorite things about romance novels, honestly, is I feel like they're always kind of secret family stories, right? Because when you think about who you want to spend your life with, a lot of times that's because of your family and the people that you grew up with.
![]() ‘Ghostbusters’ has for many years sat dormant at Columbia, and we wanted to make a movie that set a foundation for all kinds of films. Every culture in the world has a unique relationship with the supernatural, and there’s opportunity for all those stories. “I want to see other filmmakers I love making ‘Ghostbusters’ movies. “I love these characters, and I love this world,” he said. Speaking about the future of the “Ghostbusters” franchise, Reitman said there are already ideas cooking for a potential afterlife to “Afterlife.” As Winston enters the now-abandoned firehouse that served as the Ghostbusters’ headquarters and runs his hand across the Ecto-1, the camera pans to reveal the blinking red light of the spectral containment unit, suggesting there may soon be something strange in your neighborhood. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel will feature Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani. Having paid tribute to a key member of the franchise’s family and planted seeds for a new generation of ghostbusting, the film delivers a post-credits sequence that teases a potential next chapter ahead.īack in New York, Hudson’s Winston, who is now a wealthy businessman, appears to have rekindled the old ghostbusting itch. Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel Just Rescued A Marvel Star From His Failed Movie. Harold was a genius from Second City all the way through his career. ![]() “It was deeply moving to play the scene because I loved him and I miss him. “There would be no ‘Ghostbusters’ without Harold, without his brilliant writing and his frame of reference,” Aykroyd said. “People have held on to that secret and it’s a real gift to us that people feel protective of it in the same way that we do,” he said.įor Aykroyd, shooting the film’s final sequence, knowing the character of Egon would be standing beside him once again via CGI, was very emotional. Weaver played the Ghostbusters' first customer Dana Barrett who was featured in the first two movies and reprised the role in Afterlife in a cameo appearance.Speaking to The Times before the film’s release, Reitman was hesitant to say too much about Egon’s appearance in the film’s climactic moments. Unfortunately, Sigourney Weaver will not be returning for this movie. ![]() Ernie Hudson, however, has officially been confirmed to return for the new film. ![]() Fingers crossed this could also be another chance to see Rick Moranis make his big return to the big screen. These of course include Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Annie Potts, and given how positive the response was to see these characters return, odds are we'll see them again. Doctors Peter Venkman, Raymond Ray Stantz and Egon Spengler, researchers at Columbia University in New York specializing in parapsychology, are accused of carrying out bizarre research. Paul Rudd also appears as a science teacher and seismologist Gary Grooberson. Notably absent is Podcast ( Logan Kim) - the only major original character from Afterlife not confirmed to return yet, but it seems likely that he will.Īlso, not yet confirmed (but more than likely will be) to return are the legacy characters from the first two films. Carrie Coon stars as Callie Spengler, while Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace play her children Trevor and Phoebe. Also confirmed to return are the kids' school teacher and Callie's potential partner Grooberson ( Paul Rudd) and Trevor's friend Lucky ( Celeste O'Connor). Namely, these include the family of Egon Spangler, including McKenna Grace ( Gifted) as Egon's granddaughter, Phoebe, Finn Wolfhard ( It) as Egon's grandson, Trevor, and Carrie Coon ( Gone Girl) as Egon's daughter, Callie. Nearly the entire main cast from Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be returning for Ghostbusters: Firehouse. The reason? Audiences fell in love with director Ivan Reitman's fantastical ghostly vision of New York as well as the instantly likable characters of the wise-cracking Peter ( Bill Murray), the enthusiastic Ray ( Dan Aykroyd), the genius Egon (Harold Ramis), and the practical Winston ( Ernie Hudson). Yet, Ghostbusters proved to be an underdog story outside the film itself, ultimately grossing over $200 million USD, a total that surpassed the film's budget seven times over. By today's standards, a poor opening weekend is the kiss of death for movies, as that's typically the time when most blockbusters make the most of their money. Things didn't start out so great for the original 1984 film, with the first entry only making about half of its budget in its opening weekend. It's somewhat remarkable that the Ghostbusters series was almost always destined to be a smaller cult classic, yet proved to be the start of a smash-hit franchise. I've gotten a little sidetracked here though. Installation with the precut ones you can buy is trivial, just slip it into the holes left over from the buckles and attach the other side to your MOLLE. Shameless plug for First Spear, I LOVE these things. The second, better solution is to retrofit your chest rig and cumberbund with First Spear Tubes. This isn't ideal, but it's easier to do than buckle the vanilla fastex ones. The first is to simply place four Grimlocks on your cumberbund and slot the pointy end through the holes left behind by the buckles (RIP) every time you don/doff. Both involve breaking off the buckle hardware on the chest rig (sorry folks). This also means it's really uncomfortable to unbuckle. This is similar to the TAPS (#FucktheTAPS). Firstly, this means you're likely disabling any sort of quick release functionality your armor has. Obviously these pouches will extend past the edge of your front plate pocket, and this is definitely a potential sticking point for this chest rig. They have both the velcro flap when not being used for radios as well as a bungee to secure a radio. The radio pouches are well designed and hold a PRC 152, 148 or 154 securely. ![]() I should also mention the pouches are pretty deep so it's not super easy to withdraw mags regardless, but they are secure, so that's good for you Airborne folks. There's also no way to add kydex or the like to secure mags without the bungees. This is compounded to the point of being straight stupid if you've got any sort of admin pouch above it. I've tried, and it's technically possible, but forget re-indexing them or even drawing them under stress. They are designed around USGI mags and do not fit PMAGs. The magazine pouches are probably its biggest failing as a chest rig. The UW Gen IV consists of 4 magazine pouches, 2 radio pouches, 2 GP pouches, and 4 pistol mag pouches. ![]() I have not noticed any problems persay, I just sometimes worry I'll lose my Garmin if it gets snagged on something. The only issues I have are that I am not confident with the durability of the elastic loops under stress and I would have preferred PALS webbing for tie down purposes. Mayflower Research & Consulting Gen IV UW Chest RigĬonstruction is good. I'll start with the Mayflower Research & Consulting Gen IV UW Chest Rig. I probably forgot something but I'm going to move on to the individual review section. Depending on your chest rig and plate carrier (IOTV or SPCS) this could be a big issue or a minor one. Awkward bucking/disable QR/other fuckery. You'll work around Travis Haley's *perfect design and you'll like it. I'll go over a few ways I've corrected this, but it should be mentioned. You can mitigate this on most chest rigs, but even so map pockets and velcro connections make for a sloppy attachment onto your plate carrier. The (high) potential for sloppy attachment. This also relegates you to 4 PALS loops across for admin pouches or whatever you need to hold your stupid leadership shit. No matter whether your rig is designed around Swiftclips or not, they're going to add bulk to your rig, right around the area I like to mount PTTs. Again, I think this is gimmicky AF but it's technically a feature. Probably not something 99% of us will do, but they theoretically allow for rapid loadout changes.I typically avoid layering anything on top of magazine pouches as it becomes excessively bulky. They stack pouches much better since the top pouches are sewn into the magazines behind them.Although it probably exists, I don't know of a 4 across magazine pouch that weaves into the standard 6x3 PALS webbing ubiquitous across modern plate carriers. They generally hold more magazines for the given space. As the name suggests, they are detachable which allows the user to wear his armor sans extra equipment (PT, range walking, etc) or to wear his equipment sans armor (JRTC, scout shit).I would say that detachable chest rigs have several advantages over MOLLE pouches (as well as disadvantages). I'm not in a position to say exactly why they're increasing in popularity, but I can speculate based on my own personal use. So it would seem that Swiftclip compatible detachable chest rigs are the new hotness in the Infantry. ![]() Thor remains a huge fan of all the top legends, especially Bödvar.
